How Do I Refer Students to the ASC?

Academic Success Center (ASC Syllabus Statement)

The ASC (http://asc.tamu.edu) provides comprehensive resources that help all Aggies achieve their academic goals and realize their academic potential. Academic Coaches help students overcome barriers to academic success, whether that’s difficulty with reading, test-taking, time management, motivation, or something else. The ASC is located on the 9th floor of Rudder Tower, Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm. You can find academic help on campus, including study and learning materials, ASC Supplemental Instruction sessions and ASC tutoring, by visiting http://studyhub.tamu.edu.

Referring Students to Tutoring

We offer in-person and online appointment tutoring for highly requested, core-curriculum courses in science, engineering, and business. Our tutors are knowledgeable about course content as well as trained in developing learning strategies, fostering confidence, and encouraging independent learning. Referring Students to Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Since SI is tied to a specific course, enrolled students will receive communication directly from the SI leader assigned to their class or from the instructor about the details of their SI session. Learn more about what to expect from our SI sessions.

Referring Individual Students to Academic Coaching

Academic advisors, faculty, and staff are invited to refer students to academic coaching by having them follow instructions to make an appointment on Navigate. 

Coaches conduct initial one-to-one appointments and follow-ups to implement success plans. Coaches monitor and track the progress of students they are working with and record session notes in Navigate, where they are visible for advisors, faculty, and staff with access privileges.

Success Certificates

You may have identified a group (or groups) of students who need academic support, such as students on academic probation or warning. In some cases, it may be appropriate to require or recommend that students earn a Success Certificate. The Academic Success Center can monitor and track the progress of referred students and provide periodic reporting to departments or colleges. Referral agreements should be arranged by contacting Dr. Joel McGee, Director at the Academic Success Center, at jmcgee@tamu.edu.
