The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a statewide program created by the Texas State Legislature that helps ensure that all incoming college students are prepared for college-level reading, writing and math.
How Does It Work?
Incoming college students in Texas are required to demonstrate readiness for college-level work in basic skills areas. The TSI Assessment is just one way
students can do so. All incoming students do not have to take the TSI Assessment. Visit our TSI exemptions page to determine your exemption status.
For Students Who Are Not Exempt
Students who are NOT exempt must complete the mandatory TSI Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
and then take the TSI Assessment test before registering for classes.
You can also find the mandatory TSI Pre-assessment Activity (including the practice test) on either the “Applicant” or “My Record” tab on the Howdy Portal. You will need to activate your NetID and then login to Howdy to access the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity.
