Peer Academic Success Support
Thank you for your interest in the Peer Coach position within the Academic Success Center.Peer Coaches are undergraduate students dedicated to helping all Aggies achieve academic success. Below, you will find information regarding our application process, position information, and an overview of the services offered by our Peer Coaches. About the Position
Peer Coaches are passionate about helping fellow Aggies learn and succeed. Peer Coaches typically work about ten hours per week, have attended TAMU for at least two semesters, and are in good standing with the University (2.0 GPA).
Programs and Services:
Hold Appointments: Peer Coaches meet one-on-one with undergraduate students to discuss topics such as academic strategies, campus resources, or common challenges many students face. Initial appointments are 45 minutes, and follow-ups are 30 minutes. Initial appointments are made by the student seeking the service through Navigate.Hold Walk-in Hours: Students can drop in and ask any academic or campus-related questions they have! Peer Coaches can provide quick suggestions, help schedule an initial appointment with a Peer Coach, or get you in contact with other campus resources. A typical walk-in lasts about 10-15 minutes.
Conduct Accountability Groups: Peer Coaches are responsible for conducting an Accountability Group that meets once a week for 75 minutes for a total of ten weeks.
Application Process
Applications open in the middle of the Fall and Spring semesters for the FOLLOWING semester. Applications are available via the Jobs for Aggies Student Employment Office, found at jobsforaggies.tamu.edu. After an application (Google Form) has been submitted, candidates will be contacted via email.
For candidates offered interviews, there will be a link sent to select an interview date and time. Candidates will also be asked to provide contact information for two references.
Position Description and Qualifications
Job Duties:- Provides academic support through one-on-one initial assessment walk-ins and scheduled success coaching appointments.
- Provides undergraduate students with effective strategies to overcome academic barriers.
- Assists students in making an individualized plan to meet their academic goals.
- Initiates communication with students who have completed Gateway or an ASC workshop to provide additional support as needed.
- Delivers and assists with workshops and other ASC outreach presentations.
- Attends scheduled meetings with Peer Coach Leaders.
- Time commitment depends on schedule and seniority.
- Will attend pre-semester trainings as well as continuing education trainings throughout the semester. Must attend and complete all trainings as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current TAMU undergraduate that has attended TAMU for at least 2 semesters (prior to Spring 2025).
- Undergraduate in good standing with the University, and does not fall below guidelines, as stated in Texas A&M University Student Rule 12 on Scholastic Deficiency/Probation.
- Passion for helping fellow Aggies learn and succeed.
- Developed interpersonal communication skills, including but not limited to active listening, connecting with other students, and the ability to evaluate both verbal and non-verbal communication from students.
- Ability to demonstrate a mastery of the holistic elements of academia, such as time management, prioritizing, effective study strategies, note-taking, goal setting, test-taking, motivation, managing test anxiety, and using campus resources.
- Ability to dedicate at least 10 hours per week to this position.
- Expert time management skills and ability to commit to a chosen schedule.
- Strong ability to present information via PowerPoint to groups of students.
- Proactively works on assigned tasks and has the ability to self-initiate.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Ability to work with Navigate and other record-keeping software.
Pay & Hours
Pay: $12/hr
Hours: up to 10 hrs/week

Mandatory Pre-Semester Training
- Training is MANDATORY for all Peer Coaches.
- Pre-semester training will begin two days before the start of each semester.
- Fall 2025 mandatory pre-semester training dates: AUGUST 21 & 22, 2025
- Spring 2026 mandatory pre-semester training dates: JANUARY 8 & 9, 2026
- If hired, you must attend pre-semester training
- Plan to be in training for up to 8 hours or 9am-5pm each day
If a Peer Coach must be absent for training, a University excused absence will be approved on a case-by-case basis.
