Enhanced Academic Support

All Semester Long!

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is supported by the Academic Success Center, The Association of Former Students, and selected colleges or academic departments in which it is offered. SI is a peer-led, academic assistance program that can significantly improve performance for students who attend regularly. Students who attend 10 or more sessions throughout the semester have statistically been shown to earn half to a full letter grade higher than those students who do not attend.

What is SI?

SI is a peer-led group study session. These sessions are offered outside of class and meet 2-3 times per week. Each session focuses on different topics and we encourage students to attend as many sessions as possible. Attendance is voluntary.

What to learn and How to learn it

SI sessions are facilitated by SI leaders (undergraduate students who have previously taken and been successful in the course). If you attend SI, you'll experience active and collaborative learning methods that will help you achieve course learning objectives. SI Leaders show you not only what to learn but how to learn it. SI Leaders emphasize core competencies that can be used beyond the scope of a particular course, including the ability to:

  • Identify main ideas.
  • Think critically about course content.
  • Use appropriate study strategies. Backed by the science of learning.
  • Create a 5-day study plan to prepare for exams.
  • Set SMART goals for academic success.
  • Manage time efficiently.

Find SI Sessions

If your class has SI, on the first day of class your SI Leader will announce when sessions will take place. You may also search for a list of classes supported by SI and the session schedules.

The Texas A&M Supplemental Instruction team has joined forces with TxNCLCA, the Texas affiliate of the International College Learning Center Association, to co-host the TxNCLCA Conference in College Station on February 19-21, 2025. By joining with the TxNCLCA team, we will not only be able to offer multiple SI concurrent sessions, but there will also be opportunities for you to attend sessions on topics relevant to what many learning center staff encounter each day. The TxNCLCA conference will take the place of our Regional Conference that is normally hosted in May of odd years. Anyone interested in Supplemental Instruction and Peer Education -- academic administrators, SI professionals, learning center personnel, and student affairs professions who are connected to SI or peer education -- are welcome to attend! If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to the TAMU SI team at pasconferences@tamu.edu. More details will be posted soon!
