Mission & Vision

We are a National Learning Center of Excellence

In 2016, 2019, and again in 2025, the National College Learning Center Association awarded the Academic Success Center the "Learning Center of Excellence" designation. One of a few learning centers in the nation to receive this designation to date, the Texas A&M Academic Success Center is recognized as a model learning center throughout the nation.

Overview of Programs

Tutoring
Students can make an individual or small group tutoring appointment via Navigate. We have the option for in-person and online appointments. Tutoring is offered starting the second week of each semester until the last day of class. The list of available courses changes slightly each semester; check our website at the beginning of each semester for the most up-to-date offering. We get busy during peak test-taking times of the semester, so scheduling in advanced is recommended. When making the appointment, include specifics about the type of help needed as it will help us better understand the goals of the appointment. If a specific course is not listed on our website or offered through other resources on campus, please email us at asctutorhub@tamu.edu.
Supplemental Instruction (SI)
In conjunction with The Association of Former Students, we host Supplemental Instruction (SI), an award-winning academic assistance program providing regularly-scheduled, out-of-class group study sessions for select lower-level undergraduate courses, led by an SI Leader. SI leaders, undergraduates who have taken and excelled in the courses they lead, can help you master course content and prepare for quizzes, exams, and class projects.
Success Coaching
Success coaching combines aspects of advising and counseling into a dynamic and personal interaction between a student and a coach. Our professional Success Coaches work holistically to help students examine their learning preferences, study strategies, and barriers to academic success. Students are encouraged to create and implement effective plans and strategies for future success. Most coaching is conducted one-to-one, but we also offer coaching for small groups. We host some coaching services at the Veteran's Resource and Support Center

We also have student Peer Success Coaches, who are fellow students whose experience and training can help students navigate the common challenges many students face. They are a great option for students who have a question about finding resources on campus or help with adjusting to life as a college student.  Peer coaches have one-to-one appointments available and drop-in hours.
Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
TSI is mandated by the Texas State Legislature. The purpose of TSI is to identify and prepare those students whose basic skills in reading, writing, and/or mathematics are less than what is required to succeed in college level courses. Students who have been accepted to Texas A&M University but are considered "NON-EXEMPT" are required to complete the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) and then to take the TSI Assessment test before registering for classes.
Workshops
Our staff conducts a variety of free workshops throughout the semester for students interested in improving their academic performance. These workshops consist of 50- to 75-minute sessions over two or three week periods, and cover a variety of topics, including motivation and goal-setting, organization and time management, and overcoming failure, as well as general reading, studying, note-taking, and test-taking strategies.
Presentations
Want your class or organization to find out more about the services we offer in the Academic Success Center? We can give short presentations about services offered or tailor more interactive workshops that focus on particular skills that could improve students' academic performance.
StudyHub
StudyHub is an online, searchable database of on-campus academic resources created and maintained by the Academic Success Center. Think of it as a one-stop shop for finding all types of academic support by subject area, type of support, or location.
Individual Success Program
Students who have experienced academic difficulty may be referred to the Academic Success Center to complete an Individual Success Program (ISP). Completing an ISP entails completion of one of our courses, a workshop series, Success Coaching, or a combination of coaching, workshop participation, and participation in other campus support programs.

How Do I Refer Students to the ASC?

There are several ways we can help students reach their academic potential. Review our list of programs and services as a starting point or download a printable quick reference guide to referrals.

Syllabus Statement

Below is a blurb about the ASC that you can paste into your syllabus:

Academic Success Center (ASC Syllabus Statement)

The ASC (http://asc.tamu.edu) provides comprehensive resources that help all Aggies achieve their academic goals and realize their academic potential. Success Coaches help students overcome barriers to academic success, whether that’s difficulty with reading, test-taking, time management, motivation, or something else. The ASC is located in Suite 207 of the Pavilion, Monday-Friday, 8am – 5pm. You can find academic help on campus, including study and learning materials, ASC Supplemental Instruction sessions and ASC tutoring, by visiting http://studyhub.tamu.edu.

Referring Students to Tutoring
We offer in-person and online appointment tutoring for highly requested, core-curriculum courses in science, engineering, and business. Our tutors are knowledgeable about course content as well as trained in developing learning strategies, fostering confidence, and encouraging independent learning. Visit our academic tutoring page to learn more about appointment types, how students can make an appointment, as well as the current list of subjects we can tutor in.
Referring Students to Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Since SI is tied to a specific course, enrolled students will receive communication directly from the SI leader assigned to their class or from the instructor about the details of their SI session.
Referring Individual Students to Success Coaching

Academic advisors, faculty, and staff are invited to refer students to success coaching by having them follow instructions to make an appointment on Navigate.

Coaches conduct initial one-to-one appointments and follow-ups to implement success plans. Coaches monitor and track the progress of students they are working with and record session notes in Navigate, where they are visible for advisors, faculty, and staff with access privileges.

Individual Success Program
You may have identified a group (or groups) of students who need academic support, such as students on academic probation or warning. In some cases, it may be appropriate to require or recommend that students complete an Individual Success Program. The Academic Success Center can monitor and track the progress of referred students and provide periodic reporting to departments or colleges. Referral agreements should be arranged by contacting Dr. Megan McClure, Assistant Director at the Academic Success Center, at mmcclure@tamu.edu.
