Holds & Compliance
How to Remove a TSI Hold
Students with TSI holds will need to come see the TSI table during check-in on Day 1 of their New Student Conference session so that we may provide guidance for appropriate next steps (testing, exemption documentation, or required course registration).
TSI holds will be removed for all students on Day 2 after all other holds are resolved (except students who do not have a TSI status—no scores or exemptions).

After Your New Student Conference
Deadline to Take Action
Students who are TSI-liable have the opportunity to test out of their required support courses by retaking and passing the corresponding section of the TSIA2.
You may retake the reading and writing sections at any time. However, for math, you must successfully retest and meet the benchmark by the end of the first week of the semester in order to be removed from the required support course. After that point, you must remain enrolled in the TSI course for the full semester. Once you meet the required score, your TSI restriction will be lifted for that subject.
For Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen and STC Dual Enrollment
All TSI-liable students attending the Higher Education Center at McAllen location must take action by the end of the first week of classes by:
- Submitting any other qualifying exemption scores or documentation, if available
- Retesting the required section of the TSI exam, or
- Enrolling in the appropriate TSI course at STC
- If no action is taken by the end of the 1st week of classes, the student’s TAMU courses will be dropped.
If you are registering for a TSI course at South Texas College (STC):
- Send a screenshot of your registration as proof to SuccessCenter@tamu.edu
- Students using TAMU financial aid will need a waiver to cover STC tuition
- At the end of the semester, once the TSI course is passed successfully, an official college transcript from STC to TAMU must be sent to update the student’s TSI status to complete.
