Individual Success Program

Your college or department may require or recommend—often as a condition of scholastic probation—that you complete an Individual Success Program (ISP) with the Academic Success Center. We offer several options each semester for completing an ISP and strongly encourage you to start working on it as early as possible once the semester begins. After the first few weeks of the semester, some of the options will not be available. If you wait until the second half of the semester to begin, you may not be able to complete an ISP before the end of the semester.

In order to begin an Individual Success Program, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Complete the ISP Orientation on Canvas

The ISP Orientation is available as a community group in Canvas. We will enroll students in this Canvas community when notified by their department/college.

The Spring Canvas community will be available on January 6.

DEADLINE for Spring 2025:

You are highly encouraged to complete the ISP Orientation by February 21st in order to have access to options. If you wait until after this date, you will have to complete your ISP through individual coaching.
The final deadline to complete the ISP Orientation is March 21st. The online module will no longer be available after that date.

You're required to complete an ISP Orientation each semester that you're asked to complete an Individual Success Program, even if you've completed the ISP Orientation in a previous semester.

Step 2: Choose an Option to Complete an Individual Success Program

After successfully completing the online ISP Orientation module, you'll have access to a Google form (linked in Canvas) where you can select how you want to complete your Individual Success Program. This form is how you will be enrolled in any of the workshop options. Submitting the form is a required step for completing a Success Program.

The options below may change each semester, but these are typical. Details about each option will be available in the ISP Orientation module.

ASCC 101: This is a semester long, 2-credit hour course. You may only choose this option if the course fits your schedule and you register before the drop/add deadline, which is on the 5th class day of each semester. To complete your Individual Success Program through ASCC 101, you must earn a letter grade of C or higher.
Commit to Success: Commit to Success is a multi-session workshop series with a total of 6 hours of instruction. Among the topics covered are time management, note taking, text-book reading, test preparation, memory, metacognition, motivation, procrastination, and effective study strategies. This workshop has a required attendance policy.
Motivation Matters: Motivation Matters is a multi-session workshop series with a total of 6 hours of instruction. The topics covered will help you develop strong mental skills that are conducive to academic success and to success beyond your time at Texas A &M. This workshop has a required attendance policy.
BTHO Procrastination: BTHO Procrastination is a multi-session workshop series with a total of 6 hours of instruction. The sessions focus on willpower as it applies to academic success in college. Topics include the science behind willpower, becoming more aware of willpower challenges, and developing more willpower. Most examples are in the context of procrastination as a willpower challenge, but the topic applies in a variety of areas for students. Classes are designed to include lecture, group discussion, and the application of concepts outside class. This workshop has a required attendance policy.
Breaking the Scroll: Breaking the Scroll is a multi-session workshop series with a total of 6 hours of instruction. The topics covered include understanding phone addiction, effects it has on academic success, and strategies to regain control over technology use. Classes are designed to include lecture, videos, group discussions, and real-life application of ways to help foster a balanced relationship and break the scroll. This workshop has a required attendance policy.
Success Coaching (Group): In group coaching, a small number of students meet with a Success Coach once per week for six weeks to discuss a range of academic issues and best practices that enhance academic performance. Topics vary depending on the interests and needs of group members. Attendance at all six sessions is mandatory and all student participants are expected to contribute to discussions.
Success Coaching (One-to-One): Students can also choose to participate in 1:1 meetings with one of our professional Success Coaches. At an initial coaching session, you and your Success Coach will collaborate to develop a plan of action to help you develop effective study strategies and connect you to appropriate academic resources. There are not a fixed number of coaching appointments required in order to earn complete an Individual Success Program. Since this option is tailored to your specific needs, your Success Coach will determine when you have successfully completed this option and have completed your Individual Success Program. You will be given information in the Fresh Start Orientation module about how to schedule your first coaching appointment. NOTE: Students required to complete an Individual Success Program who choose “Success Coaching” must meet with professional Success Coach. Peer coaching meetings do not fulfill the requirements to complete an Individual Success Program.
Accountability Groups: Accountability groups are an effective option for students who may be struggling with motivation or staying on task. The groups will meet once a week for 75 minutes for a total of 10 weeks. Students must attend a minimum of 7 sessions. Some students prefer to work alongside other Aggies who are also setting academic goals and working towards them. When you join an accountability group, you will become part of a community of Aggies who meets weekly to complete academic tasks. During the first few minutes of the session, you will set a goal for your focused work time. This may be studying for a test, completing practice problems, finishing a draft of an essay, reading a chapter, organizing notes, or something similar. Then, you will work until the end of the session when you assess your goal completion. Your small accountability group will help you stay motivated toward achieving your academic goals, completing homework, and studying. Along the way, ASC staff will support you by sharing study tips that can help you throughout the week.
