Tutor Job Description

Academic Success Center tutors assist students one-to-one or in small groups, as needed. They don't check homework or give answers; instead, they help students learn how to learn by assisting them in finding answers on their own, reviewing essential course concepts and developing effective study habits. Tutors work in subjects and courses in which they have a proven record of success. 


  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for students who seek tutoring
  • Attend all scheduled tutoring hours
  • Assist students in a drop-in and appointment-based environment
  • Participate in periodic training (usually at the beginning of each semester)
  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Perform additional administrative duties, including program development and marketing

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate at Texas A&M University
  • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills
  • Receive a grade of B or higher in the selected subjects taken at the University (certain exceptions may be allowed on a person-by-person basis for transfer credits)
  • Be available to work in the evenings including possibly Sundays
  • Be available to work approximately 10 hours per week
